Helping others build on their dreams
The volunteers of San Marcos Habitat for Humanity take raw materials, like lumber and nails, and turn them into a home for others. The American dream, a home. The overall goal is simple: to provide housing to those who need it. The Mill St. project is a labor of love. The house, which is a work in progress, has had over 500 volunteers work on its walls. Local businesses have also been gracious in donating materials to the project. Aside from providing someone with a new home, these volunteers are looking into the future. The houses built by Habitat for Humanity are equipped with energy saving materials and appliances, such as high efficiency AC units, vinyl windows and foam insulation.
San Marcos Habitat for Humanity has built 10 homes in the area. The future homeowners contribute by helping in the construction of their new home. The local Habitat for Humanity's current project, the Mill St. house, is a 1200 square feet, three bedroom, two bath home.
Whether it's to learn more about working with your hands, or sharing the gift of a home with others, these volunteers provide an amazing opportunity to local families.
