Helping man's best friend
Launch a ball across the yard at the San Marcos Animal Shelter, and these dogs quickly forget that they're shelter dogs. They'll play for hours, or as long as the volunteers at the shelter will let them. Give a feisty feline a scratch behind the ears, and she'll be your best friend. The dedicated people who come to play with the dogs and cats provide such a great gift: the gift of love. People volunteer for many different reasons. Perhaps it's because they can't have a pet of their own, or recently lost a beloved pet. Or maybe it's because they simply understand how far a little love goes. Even if a volunteer is only able to spend 10 minutes with a dog or cat, for those 10 minutes, that animal knows that they are loved.
Those that are wary around animals, needn't worry, there are plently of other volunteer opportunities at the shelter. From cleaning the kennels, to taking photos of the animals to post on the city's web site, there is something for everyone.
Watch to find out why these animal lovers volunteer.
